Academics

Primary to Grade 5

Harvest Christian Academy utilizes mainly Abeka and Charlotte Mason curriculum. For mathematics the curriculum used is Singapore Math. This in depth curriculum uses multiple modalities to understand math and prepares students to become successful problem solvers. The Charlotte Mason letters kit and building words kit teaches basic reading skills using the phonics approach. This gives students a solid foundation for developing exceptional reading skills. Our “Explode the Code” curriculum for grades 1-5 reinforces phonics knowledge and cultivates new concepts of language arts. In all other subjects, the Abeka curriculum is well rounded and models God’s design. The classrooms are divided as enrollment dictates with preference given to the following:

Grade Primary - One

Grade Two – Five

*Please note, this arrangement is subject to change based on enrollment.

The afternoon activities involve multi-age groups (P- grade 5).

Mathematics

Students at Harvest are able to work at their own pace and may have different learning styles. How does that work in our classroom?

One example is our math curriculum: Singapore Math. This highly effective method of learning math ranks top in international math testing. Since our brains all work differently, Singapore Math teaches math in multiple ways. Students learn to be problem solvers, and have a more in depth understanding of how math is used in the real world.

Science

Students at Harvest love that science is hands on. They are able to link how God created everything to work together through the smallest designs to the largest forces. How does this look in our books?

Abeka is the leading curriculum in Christian schools across North America. The wonderful thing about it is every tool, resource, and textbook within their curriculum is based on Christian beliefs.

Literacy

Students at Harvest are not simply given grade level work and expected to struggle through. Many people have struggled with reading growing up, and if it's not understood, then students resort to guessing. So how do students succeed in our classroom?

Our literacy curriculum: “Explode The Code” is an effective way of teaching students to read using Phonics. “Explode The Code” (ETC) has helped millions of students nationwide build the essential literacy skills needed for reading success.

Our Teacher

Maria Lahoud is originally from the Ukraine but spent most of her life studying, working and living in the international communities of Europe and the Middle East. Her education journey started early as she entered university at the age of 16. Maria holds two Bachelor and two Master degrees in Christian Education, Psychology and Applied Theology.

Maria worked with children and youth from international families in leading international Christian schools with US curriculum. The latest school she worked at was Kyiv Christian Academy where she helped the school to successfully achieve ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) certification; something HCA has recently achieved!

As you can imagine, your child will be in good hands at HCA, led by a world class educator with strong Christian values.
